Hardwood flooring specialists in the Greater Columbus Area

Owner Randy Burke and the Burke Flooring crew have installed hardwood in homes all across the Greater Columbus Area, from century-old houses near Downtown Columbus to new-build subdivisions farther out. We supply and install solid hardwood, engineered hardwood, and custom parquet from every major mill - Lauzon, Mirage, Mercier, Bruce, Kahrs, Coswick, Shaw, Armstrong, and more.

Because we buy directly from the mills, you get mill pricing on the same floors the big-box stores mark up at retail. Our own employed crew, not day labor, handles every step: removal, subfloor leveling, installation, staining, and finishing - and every job carries our one-year installation guarantee.

Solid vs. engineered - how to choose

Both are genuine wood. The difference is how the board is built underneath the finish, and which one you should pick often comes down to your subfloor. Many of the older homes we work in around the Greater Columbus Area still have original solid hardwood hiding under decades-old carpet - a great candidate for [hardwood refinishing](/hardwood-refinishing) instead of a full tear-out - while newer slab-foundation subdivisions generally do better with [engineered hardwood](/engineered-hardwood).

  • Solid hardwood - 3/4" plank of 100% wood, nailed down, refinishable 5-7 times over its lifetime. Best on plywood subfloors on main and upper levels.
  • Engineered hardwood - real wood top layer over a stable plywood core that resists expanding or contracting with humidity. Best over concrete, below grade, and with radiant heat.
  • Wide planks (5"-7") - a modern look available in both solid and engineered builds.
  • Parquet patterns - chevron, herringbone, custom inlays - all available in solid or engineered.

Wood species and stain colors

Red and white oak make up roughly 70% of what we install - they're durable, take stain beautifully, and age gracefully. Maple gives a cleaner, more uniform grain. Hickory is the hardest domestic species and holds up well in active households. Walnut and cherry bring richer, darker tones for more formal rooms.

Stain choices range from natural blonde and whitewashed to grey, fumed, and dark espresso. We bring sample boards to your home so you can judge the actual stain on the actual wood under your own lighting, not a printed swatch in a catalog.

Professional installation and refinishing

We install nail-down, glue-down, and floating hardwood depending on what your subfloor allows. Every job includes moisture testing, subfloor leveling, baseboard removal and reinstall, and full disposal of the old flooring. If your existing hardwood just needs new life instead of replacement, our [hardwood refinishing](/hardwood-refinishing) crew offers dustless sanding, custom staining, and water-based polyurethane finishes that cure in days rather than weeks. Want it on your [stairs](/hardwood-stairs) too? We do that in the same visit. [Get your free estimate](/free-estimate) to get started.

Hardwood Flooring - frequently asked questions

Most whole-home installs take 2 to 4 days. Refinishing existing hardwood adds another 3 to 5 days for sanding, staining, and finishing.

Engineered hardwood works well in kitchens and below-grade basements since the plywood core stays stable through humidity swings. We don't recommend solid hardwood in either spot.

A quality solid hardwood floor can last 80-100 years and be refinished 5-7 times along the way. Engineered hardwood typically lasts 30-50 years with 1-2 refinishes available.

We bring sample boards in your wood species and color so we can match within a shade or two. For a perfect blend, we can refinish your existing hardwood in the same visit so the whole floor reads as one.
